The Vacancy
Salary: L33 (£109,275) to L39 (£126,517)
Pilton Community College is one of two 11-16 comprehensive, mixed gender secondary schools serving the town and villages surrounding Barnstaple. We are seeking to appoint a new Headteacher to lead the school’s community.
The school was graded as "Good” in 2023. Ventrus and another local Trust, Tarka Learning Partnership, on 1 April 2025 will combine to become The Harbour Schools Partnership, consisting of two secondary schools and 34 primary schools.
The Pilton CC Headteacher will work collaboratively with these schools as a member of the Trust’s School Leaders’ Group, as well as with other groups such as Education Futures North Devon Partnership (EFNDP). The Trust has a Centre for Professional Development and is working closely with South West Institute for Teaching (SWIFT) as a Board Member to support the ECF and Teacher/Leader/Support staff CPD agendas. This is a time of growth and exciting change for Pilton Community College and The Harbour Schools Partnership.
The School and partnership seek a Headteacher who can both drive school improvement and enjoys and sees the benefits of collaboration to maintain a highly effective school.
The Trust supports a model of empowering each Headteacher to develop a school vision and follow it, rather than mandating a single Trust-wide approach to school effectiveness.
The post is ideally suited to a January 2026 start. For further information regarding the role, please refer to the attached recruitment pack, which includes the job description and person specification.

The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 31st March 2025, interviews will be held on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April 2025.
All shortlisted applicants will be subject to an online search.
Ventrus Multi Academy Trust require all applicants to be eligible to work in the UK with no restrictions, as we are unable to offer sponsorship/work visas. You will be required to provide proof of Right to Work at interview stage.
